Many people are wondering How to use Internet connection to make cheap phone calls to normal landlines phones? What hardware is needed? what software they need, etc.
Making cheap phone calls to normal phones requires a minimum of hardware and software at your end. All you need is a microphone and you can use your computer’s existing speakers. Alternatively, you can purchase a small headset consisting of a microphone and ear speakers. Most laptops have both built in already, so no hardware is required. The prices for these headsets start under $10 but can go over $100 depends on the sound quality and how good is the headset.
The next item that you will need is an account with a provider of the VoIP or Voice over IP telephony service. You will also need the software to use it but usually it is Free.
We have tried and installed four different SoftPhones, From some voip phone services company such as MyNetFone, Engin, Freshtel and Skype. for you guys who dont know what is softphone, A SoftPhone is software that allows your voice to be transferred as a data stream over the Internet protocol. It is easy to use, has many features and the voice quality is very good. In my opinion the quality was better than calls to mobiles and my friends were unaware that I was talking over the Internet for both local and interstate calls. Overseas quality is just as good in almost all cases.
Skype might be the largest VOIP providers, but being based in Europe, calls within Australia are treated as overseas calls. It also offers video in addition to voice, whereas the other local vendors are voice only.
In Our opinion, if you call someone interstate on a regular basis, you will save more money by using a VoIP. But still this is just an alternative to phone card, because you can always use phone card to save more money on interstate and international phone call as well. Which one is cheaper, using phone card or VOIP, it all depends on your conditions. So always try to compare what kind of call you usually make, then you can find out wheter using VOIP is cheaper or using phone card is cheaper.
