How to use Prepaid Phone Card?
Posted on March 15, 2008
International prepaid phone cards come in different dollar amounts (their “denomination” or “face value”) - $10, $20, $30 or $50 per card. This is the amount or credit of call time you have available on the card. However, the card can be easily and instantly recharged if required.
Prepaid phone card has a local access number to call to initiate your call and includes an individual Personal Identification Number (PIN). For security reason, if you buy the phone card from shop, you will get the physical cards, and the PIN is hidden by a scratch-off coating that you remove after buying the card. To place a call, dial the access number and follow the recorded instructions. After you enter the PIN number, you will hear a recording about your available minutes or remaining balance.

What is VOIP solutions?
Posted on March 14, 2008
VOIP(Voice over IP , is a way of making phone calls using the Internet. VOIP also known as Internet telephony. VoIP utilize a packet switched network, rather than the old fashioned circuit switched public switched telephone network. All of the large telecommunication companies use IP to carry their long distance telephone traffic, so in a way, we all use VoIP whether we realize it or not! Over the last few years, more and more large and medium sized companies have begun using VoIP to eliminate the cost of inter-office calls, and reduce their overall telecommunication costs.
An added benefit of VoIP is that the voice data gets compressed and takes up less bandwidth than a traditional phone call, additionally, silence (which if you think about it, in most telephone conversations, between the two people talking, on average, at least one of them is silent all of the time!) does not get transmitted as it wastes bandwidth!
There are many scenarios where voice over IP can be beneficial and it always comes down to reducing phone bills. With free phone calls to other Internet telephony users, and cheap phone calls to standard PSTN telephones around the world, you are sure to save money.
How is the VoIP call made?
A voice signal from a VoIP telephone systems usually is passed through a VoIP device that converts the regular telephone voice signal to a digital one so it can use a broadband internet connection where it travels to the destination equipment. The digital signal is then converted back to the original voice call.
In simple words , we can say that when the originator calls a number the VoIP adapter logs on to the routing server , which looks up the destination IP number that’s associated with the dialled phone number and it start the connection. If the destination number is not using VoIP technology, and doesn’t have the phone number tied in with an IP number, then it is recognised that the destination number is a Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) phone and the call is routed through the PSTN.

How to make cheap phone calls using Internet?
Posted on March 13, 2008
Many people are wondering How to use Internet connection to make cheap phone calls to normal landlines phones? What hardware is needed? what software they need, etc.
Making cheap phone calls to normal phones requires a minimum of hardware and software at your end. All you need is a microphone and you can use your computer’s existing speakers. Alternatively, you can purchase a small headset consisting of a microphone and ear speakers. Most laptops have both built in already, so no hardware is required. The prices for these headsets start under $10 but can go over $100 depends on the sound quality and how good is the headset.
The next item that you will need is an account with a provider of the VoIP or Voice over IP telephony service. You will also need the software to use it but usually it is Free.
We have tried and installed four different SoftPhones, From some voip phone services company such as MyNetFone, Engin, Freshtel and Skype. for you guys who dont know what is softphone, A SoftPhone is software that allows your voice to be transferred as a data stream over the Internet protocol. It is easy to use, has many features and the voice quality is very good. In my opinion the quality was better than calls to mobiles and my friends were unaware that I was talking over the Internet for both local and interstate calls. Overseas quality is just as good in almost all cases.
Skype might be the largest VOIP providers, but being based in Europe, calls within Australia are treated as overseas calls. It also offers video in addition to voice, whereas the other local vendors are voice only.
In Our opinion, if you call someone interstate on a regular basis, you will save more money by using a VoIP. But still this is just an alternative to phone card, because you can always use phone card to save more money on interstate and international phone call as well. Which one is cheaper, using phone card or VOIP, it all depends on your conditions. So always try to compare what kind of call you usually make, then you can find out wheter using VOIP is cheaper or using phone card is cheaper.

Australian Prepaid Calling Card Market
Posted on March 9, 2008
According to the AC Nielsen 2002 Convenience Report, Prepaid International phone card is the fastest growing category by far, with an annual growth rate of 60%. New technologies and products mean the category is more accurately called PREPAID TELECOMS - everything from the familiar plastic phone cards to electronic vouchers for prepaid internet. The main products are international calling cards and mobile phone recharge cards and vouchers.
The Australian total prepaid cards market is valued at $1.5 billion (and 5 million customers), and is expected to increase to between $3 billion and $4 billion over the next few years. Over 80% of the market is mobile recharge, nearly 15% phone cards, and the rest prepaid internet, still in its infancy.
Total global sales of prepaid calling cards is about 2 million per month, of which 150,000 are sold in Australia. This is on a steep growth curve. In the past, international calling cards were mainly used by backpackers and other travellers. With nearly 25% of the Australian population born overseas, the potential to make inroads into the $2 billion long-distance home market is enormous. Suppliers are responding to the increased general awareness of consumers of the potential to control their budget, lower costs, and choose from a wide range of products and features, without sacrificing service quality.

Tips For choosing PrePaid Phone Cards
Posted on March 5, 2008
Tips no 1: always Compare the rate, feature, etc.
There are a lot of prepaid phone cards in the market now , so if you are really want to get the most out of your money, take the time to compare different calling cards.
Tips no 2: always Read the term and conditions.
Be aware some prepaid calling cards which offer you huge amount of talk time. Usually these cards only mention how many minutes you can talk to without mention any rate. Usually this kind of card, have other fee, which can be service fee, connection fee, etc. Once again, always read the term and conditions to make sure all the hidden charge.
Tips no 3: always Protect your Phone card PIN (Personal Identification Number)
PIN is is your personal number and should not ever be shared with anyone unless you have given them permission to use the card.
Tips no 4: Find out if there is any Connection fee.
Connection Fee is a fee which is billed for every connected call you made . If the destination number is connected to answering machines, fax machines, voice mail, or pagers picks up, the call is considered to be connected. Connection fees vary between different calling cards. If you are planning on making only short calls, the connection fee alone can finish your cards minutes. Many prepaid phone cards will have a cheap per minute rate, but then a very high connection fee. Once again, if you make only short quick calls, check the per minute rate while knowing what your connection fee is.
Tips no 5: Make sure you know your card expiration date
Most of the prepaid phone cards have expiration date. This time span is usually 3-6 months and is either from the date of purchase or the cards first use. If your card expires with minutes still remaining, you cant use it anymore. If expiray date is really important for you, the best way is to find card with no expiry date such as Honest phonecard, so you dont need to worry if the card will be expired.
